About Me

  • Hola! Welcome to Spring Oaks Middle School and another exciting academic school year 2012-2013. I was born and raised in the border city of Laredo, Texas. Located on the northern bank of the Rio Grande, Laredo is known for its booming import/export trade industry with Mexico and it is the largest inland port in the continental United States. I graduated from Texas A&M International University in 2003 and hold an EC - 4, 4-8th generalist and bilingual education supplemental – Spanish (grades 4-8th) teaching certifications.  In Laredo, I taught 5th grade science for 3 years and since moving to Houston, in 2008, I have taught 7th science at Spring Oaks and absolutely love it. I take great pleasure and honor in serving our SOMS community. Parents are appreciative and supportive and I enjoy the diversity of our student body. I look forward to collaborating with our students and parents and making this year a very productive and successful year! Go Panthers!!!

Middle school science ROCKS!!!

7th Grade Science

The seventh grade science curriculum framework has four strands: Matter and Energy, Force, Motion and Energy; Earth and Space; and Organisms and Environments.  Organisms and Environments are the major focus of study.  Within the framework of this science content, students develop the process skills needed to investigate any topic.  These skills include problem solving, investigative procedures, use of scientific tools, data collecting, and technology.  By merging these skills with content topics, students experience science rather than just read about it.

7th Grade Science Pre-AP

The Pre-Advancement (Pre-AP) seventh grader utilizes the same process skills and explores the same content topics as the grade level student.  The Pre0AP student experiences a rigorous program of hands-on-learning.  The high expectations as well as the faster pace of this class allows for more in-depth investigations of topics.

*I encourage parents and students to sign up for FAMILY ACCESS which is the system to holds our gradebook, so you can view grades anytime you like for all your child's classes. The front office and/or counselors are good resources to help you get logged into Family Access.

*Any class or homework assignments that have not be turned in will be promptly placed on the ICU list after the original due date. The ICU list is an interactive school wide list that tracks any assignments not turned in to any classroom teacher.
    1. First, students will be reminded daily during their Panther Pride advisory class teacher, classroom teacher, or staff as well as principals/counselors.
    2. Second, students are given many chances to take care of their work on their own accord as well as chances during before school and during lunch.
    3. Lastly if students are still unable to complete their work in a timely, responsible manner, there will be after school opportunities every week called Gift of Time for students who are unable to complete these assignments.

*If you see your child working on science daily or you are getting regular calls about your child having missing assignments on the ICU list, then it is most likely he or she is not using their time wisely during the 55 minute class period.
